  • The township was named after a Canadian patriot, Col. Amos Norton.
  • In 1850, a fruit farm and a Porter Sawmill were established by Ira Porter. This marked the abundance of large fruit farms in the township. Raising fruit became Norton Shore’ profitable industry. Crates of berries graced the docks by the harbor, all bound for Chicago.
